A Brief History of Zen Ethic

On travelling to India in 1989, the founder, François fell in love with the country immediately. He relocated from Paris to fully immerse himself in this wonderful country full of originality, craftsmanship and spirituality. During his adventures, he discovers the rich and vibrant history of textiles in India. Collecting beautiful fabrics from all across the country and shawls woven in the Himalayas, he begins to distribute them back in his home country, France.

As a result, Zen Ethic was formed in 1997, thus continuing the adventures between the two countries. Since 1999 François has also been designing homeware as well as apparel and women’s accessories. These were made using organic and cotton veils and were hand-printed in the region of Jaipur, expanding their connections across the beautiful country.

Striving for Slow Fashion, Zen Ethics designs focus on natural materials, authenticity and craftsmanship. Their unique women's clothing brand has developed into a chic and contemporary vision of ethnic style.

He has been an integral part of the Zen Ethic family for many years and he represents the brand with its manufacturers and thoroughly checks the quality of production. Zen Ethic has great respect for good working conditions, fair pay for the incredibly talented craftsmen making these products come to life and aims to reduce their ecological footprint wherever possible.

When we first discovered Zen Ethic at a trade show in London, not only did we love the designs but the practicality of the garments too. These are comfortable pieces of women’s clothing that are designed in natural and mostly organic cotton making them lovely and lightweight for wearing in the warmer months. But they’re more than just comfortable as you will see here, the prints are really what make these pieces stand out. Designed exclusively in Paris, the prints are then sent to India where they are printed by hand. Zen Ethic also collaborates with stylists keen to develop new print ideas combining the brand DNA and the ancestral traditions of the Indian artisans such as block print, hand embroidery and Kantha stitching.

The collection is comprised of ethereal classic ladies dresses, classic tunics and shirts, long summer skirts, quilted jackets and kaftans. But it’s not just the garments that caught our attention. The stunning range of accessories really brought the whole collection together. From hand-printed women's scarves to make-up bags, wash bags and delicate scrunchies.
