The Origins Of Mamma Mia Dresses

The story of Mamma Mia dresses began in 2019, when we first discovered the fabulous brand Sartoria Saracena. We built a small collection of classic ladies dresses with them, choosing our unique combinations of prints and colours, one of which was an elegant shirt waister maxi dress. We chose a beautiful blue and white tile print, typical of the Mediterranean and wow, Mamma Mia. 

As any of you who have visited the shop in Melrose will know, we’re ABBA fans at Sarah Thomson and this style truly pays homage to the classic ABBA track, ‘Mamma Mia’. *Queue glamourous Greek island*. Since then, the Mamma Mia dresses and Mamma Midi dresses quickly became our best selling styles. Each season we’ve been growing the collection to bring you new, fun and vibrant prints, and now, due to demand, we’ve decided to stock them all year round. Cut from high-quality Italian linen, these Mamma Mia dresses are designed to last. With a classic shirt-waister style, the Mamma Mia dress features a classic women’s collar, a button-down placket from the collar to the hem and tailoring on the body with carefully placed bust darts and panels. The icing on the cake is that it has also been designed with pockets! 

Each season we have Mamma Mia dresses constructed in new prints and colours. We only have 1-2 of each size in each print which makes them so unique. Often we select unique prints designed by Sartoria Saracena for our collection. They often can really be one-of-a-kind!

A family-run business from Gragnano, Italy, Sanatoria Saracena produces some of the finest linen garments we have ever seen. Handmade by a small team in their HQ, you can be sure that each classic women’s clothing item has been expertly made with love! By utilising years of true craftsmanship, they design beautiful prints, originally painted by hand and translated into metres of fabric.
